La Huerta Valenciana – the Garden of Valencia – is one of Europe’s most fertile farming regions, providing fruit and vegetables for much of the continent throughout the four seasons thanks to its geographical location, weather conditions, and an irrigation system installed by the Moors almost a thousand years ago. Despite this, la Huerta Valenciana is still threatened by the resurgence of housing construction on the fringes of Valencia which eat away at the fertile farmland as demand for housing in the city continues to increase.
